Yes, we pressure wash a day before any exterior painting project.

This is dependent on many factors:

  • Surface Area vs. Square Footage of the House: The 3000 sqft figure usually refers to the living space or the footprint of the house. The actual surface area to be painted (walls, trim, etc.) will be significantly larger.
  • Number of Coats: Two coats are generally recommended for good coverage.
  • Porosity and Texture of Surfaces: Rough surfaces like stucco or unpainted wood will absorb more paint than smooth surfaces.

On Average we've found that 1 can of paint can go about 300 sqft of wall space.

No, primer is not generally needed, but when we go take a look at your project we will always make the best possible recommendations.

At Saturn Painting, we will always treat bare wood or rust areas with primer.

You have the freedom to choose any paint sheen for any area of your home. We are more than happy to share our professional insights and recommendations on which sheens will best suit specific surfaces and your lifestyle, ensuring a beautiful and lasting result.

There are different types of paint finishes (also known as sheens) each offering a distinct look and level of durability. Here's a breakdown:

  • Flat or Matte:
    • Appearance: Non-reflective, provides a smooth, velvety look.
    • Pros: Excellent at hiding imperfections on walls and ceilings, provides great color saturation, good for low-traffic areas.
    • Good for: Ceilings, adult bedrooms, formal living rooms, and walls with many flaws.

  • Eggshell:
    • Appearance: Low sheen, with a soft, subtle luster, like the surface of an eggshell.
    • Pros: More durable and easier to clean than flat, good for moderate traffic areas, hides imperfections reasonably well.
    • Good for: Living rooms, dining rooms, hallways, and bedrooms. It's a popular all-around choice.

  • Satin:
    • Appearance: Medium sheen with a smooth, velvety look and a noticeable luster.
    • Pros: Good durability and stain resistance, easy to clean, offers a richer look than eggshell.
    • Good for: Kitchens, bathrooms, hallways, kids' rooms, and trim. Its moisture resistance makes it suitable for areas with humidity.

  • Semi-Gloss:
    • Appearance: Medium to high sheen, providing a noticeable shine and reflectivity.
    • Pros: Very durable and easy to clean, moisture-resistant, highlights architectural details.
    • Good for: Trim, doors, cabinets, kitchens, and bathrooms – areas that require frequent cleaning and can withstand a higher shine.

  • High-Gloss:
    • Appearance: Very shiny and reflective, almost glass-like.
    • Pros: Most durable and easiest to clean, highly moisture-resistant, creates a dramatic and durable finish.
    • Good for: Doors, trim, cabinets, and sometimes accent pieces where a bold, durable, and easy-to-clean surface is desired. It's also good for exterior elements like shutters and door frames.
